| About the Program |
Baton Rouge Green's Living Roadways sites along the interstate system were initially installed in collaboration with the Department of Transportation & Development (DOTD) with support of federal funds through the ISTEA program. Both DOTD and City Parish DPW continue to support keeping our roads looking their best by allowing Baton Rouge Green's sponsor recognition program along roadways where safety & visibility are not compromised.
Baton Rouge Green planted & still maintains nearly 5,000 trees at medians & intersections along Baton Rouge's interstate system and other heavily-traveled roadways. The "Green Team" local sponsors who make this possible is a regional model that demonstrates community responsibility for caring for public green spaces. Currently, BRG manages over 20 roadway projects along Interstates 10 & 12 and other highly-visible roadways.
Sponsors make an annual tax deductible contribution, for which they receive recognition, if desired, on a sign at the sponsored site. Sponsorship funds are used to pay for weed spraying, fertilizing, and pruning of the trees and helps support other programs and general operations of Baton Rouge Green.
For more information about a specific site or a potential new site, call 225.381.0037 or email us at roadways@batonrougegreen.com

BRG gets many calls and visits annually from travelers from other cities and states about BRG's Roadway Enhancement Program.

Valuable members of the Green Team are committed volunteers without whom the program would be cost prohibitive. Assisting BRG in tree inventories, installing and maintaining sponsor recognition signs, water during droughts and general trouble shooting are Pat Almond, Ken Fledderman and Joe Self. A BIG THANK YOU GOES TO THESE INVALUABLE VOLUNTEERS FOR THEIR COLLECTIVE YEARS OF SERVICE.
BRG wishes to thank Warden James LeBlanc, of Dixon Correctional Institute (DCI), for DCI's assistance in mulching & pruning selected Baton Rouge roadway sites. Special thanks go to Captain John Smith, Seargent Shoemaker and the inmates of DCI.
